Let’s Talk Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month

Every June is Alzheimer’s and brain awareness month in the United States. This is a time for people of all ages to raise awareness and join in on the fight against this disease. To increase awareness, we at Freedom Home Care have provided some ways to get involved for all ages.

Let’s start with something for everyone. The first thing you can do to get involved is to maintain 67 seconds of silence. Every 67 seconds someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, and showing some silence will help recognize just how frequent this disease is.

Wearing purple is another way people of all ages can help to find a cure. Going to the Alzheimer’s Association directly, you can purchase Alzheimer awareness shirts to really show your support!

For younger children, you can order the “color your mind” coloring book. Once ordered, you can encourage your kids to color with their grandparents or loved ones who have the disease. This is a great way to get your loved ones’ active as well.

Another way kids can better understand what their loved ones are going through is by helping them read “Grandma and Me: a Kid’s Guide to Alzheimer’s and Dementia”. This book breaks down what Alzheimer’s and Dementia are in a way that your kids can fully understand.

Adults can get involved too! You can help host an event or dinner party and ask your close friends/family to help contribute to the cause. Hosting a sporting event fundraiser is also another way to help keep your brain active while helping a good cause.

No matter how you do it, make sure to join in on Alzheimer’s awareness month and show a loved one your support! We are a proud sponsor of this year’s Longest Day Italian Night & Dinner Fundraiser. We believe in supporting Alzheimer’s awareness in any way we can. Check out our Facebook to see a recap of the event.
