February is here and you might be wondering how you can celebrate Valentine’s Day with your senior loved one this year. With Coronavirus still present, your traditional Valentine’s plans may not be possible this year. Fortunately, there are many ways to share love without spreading germs to your loved ones. Check out our safety tips for elderly from Freedom Home Care below.
Zoom Call
Zoom is a great way to connect with your loved one while remaining a safe distance away. Zoom is a computer program used to hold online and virtual meetings. It is also a great way to actually see your senior loved one instead of just talking to them on the phone. Zoom can be used on a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. Be sure to help your senior loved one get all set up or notify their in-home caregiver that you would like to have a zoom call with them so they can have plenty of technological assistance.
Organize A Drive By Parade
With Coronavirus still here, drive by parades have become quite popular to help celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and many other occasions. So why not add Valentine’s Day to the mix! Gather family and friends to decorate their vehicles with red and pink hearts and play your senior loved one’s favorite romantic music as you drive by and honk. They will love the display of appreciation and it is also a great way to remain socially distant while still spreading some love. Just be sure to conduct your parade during an appropriate time of day and remain a safe distance from your loved one to follow CDC guidelines.
Keep it Traditional
What better way to show your loved one you are thinking of them than by writing them a handwritten note? You don’t need to be fancy or get technological if it’s not your thing, your loved one is already missing you and picking out a sweet Valentine’s card with a handwritten message will be just what they need. Flowers and candy are also great additions to really spread the love this year without spreading any germs.
