This winter has been cold, snowy, and seemingly never-ending. But now as the flowers are beginning to bloom and the temperature rises, we can’t help but to get out of the house. Luckily, there are several events and classes for Chicago seniors happening around town.
The Active Senior Expo pops up in various cities once a month in the Chicagoland area. It features products and services that interest older adults, from healthcare to travel to financial services. Participants at the Expo can also enjoy live music, free health screenings, and prize drawings. It is definitely not something to be missed.
CJE Senior Life also offers programs of interest throughout the year. There are several events every month. One of the more popular classes is “Conquering Your Clutter” which teaches techniques to simplify life and organize more efficiently. Another interesting seminar is “Mind Body Medicine” where a nurse describes holistic therapies such as chiropractic medicine, acupuncture, and herbal supplements. She also discusses how these complementary therapies work with traditional medicine for added health.
If a more active senior is looking for some fun this spring, they can make their way to WestSuburbanMedicalCenter in Oak Park for free exercise classes. Older adults can gain flexibility with Yoga, practice balance with Tai Chi, or just have a little fun with Wii Bowling.
As spring calls us to get out of hibernation and become motivated, take advantage of some of these fun events around our wonderful city.
